Colombia has a lot of good places to do butterfly photography. Each region has a different habitat and can have many species.
Because the Andes split into three cordilleras, there is high biodiversity. The changing altitude, and the three east/west slopes, play an important role in the number of species. At the higher altitudes the number of species declines, with the highest numbers in the lower elevations along with the brighter colors. But the higher altitudes have many specialities, also many undescribed species.
Around 1000-1200m there can be very high diversity, because there is a mix of lowland rainforest species with cloudforest species.
